Serving up eggs with style
Feb 28th, 2008 by admin

Is there an egg decorating tradition in your family? Eggs are a symbol of new life and are important in many springtime celebrations.

In our studios this month you can learn how to make intricate Ukrainian eggs, decorate egg candles, decoupage wooden and mache eggs, and even make egg ornaments (see more details below).

When you come to ARTBEAT, you’ll find creative and unusual gift ideas for Springtime and Easter – some you can make, and some already made for you!

Egg Decorating Made Easy
Egg decorating doesn’t need to be messy or complicated. Here are three easy methods to try:

1) Decoupage
Apply colored tissue paper to egg shells or hard-boiled eggs using a nontoxic glue/glaze such as Mod Podge that dries to a hard finish. For fancier, more permanent patterned eggs, use our Decopatch papers and Paperpatch glue/glaze on wood or mache. Haven’t tried these yet? We’ll give you a free demo at any time, or you can join one of our scheduled workshops or classes.

2) Decorate Egg Candles These charming egg candles come in cartons just like the real thing – buy them by the half-dozen. Apply designs cut from thin beeswax – we’ll show you how to use our fun tools to make grass, flowers, baby chicks, and more. Purchase here

3) Egg Ornaments Sticky oval boards are fun for all ages to decorate with sand, glitter, jewels, and ribbon.

Bunnies Are Back!

Just in time for Spring, our cloth bunnies are back, ready to dress up as cute little bunnies or roguish rabbits. They’ll be featured in our workshop on March 8th.

Here’s to an early and Happy Spring!

Hope Faith and Charlie
Feb 11th, 2008 by admin

Hope Faith and CharlieWhat makes someone want to write a book? While some people just like to write, for others an important event makes them want to tell a story.

That’s what happened with Franklin mom, Dierdre Carey, whose book, Faith, Hope, and Charlie tells the story of her son’s victorious battle with cancer.

On Sunday, February 10th, 2008 from 1:00 to 3:00 pm we invite you to meet Deirdre, Charlie and his brother Jay in our Franklin studio. Deirdre will be signing copies of her book and also talking about the journey that led her to write the book. A portion of the proceeds from sale of the book go to Boston’s Floating Hospital for Children.

Parents will want to read about this family’s story of hope and survival. Deirdre tells their story with raw honesty, sharing the ups and downs of the long journey toward Charlie’s recovery and the role that hope and faith played in their extraordinary challenge.

Children can join Charlie and Jay in starting to create their own books, with materials provided by ARTBEAT.

This is a free event, refreshments served. hopefaithandcharlie.com
