This is a family adventure with something for everyone:
HUNT... for the little wooden giraffes we have hidden in Arlington’s green spaces Make yours into an ART GIRAFFE and bring it to Artbeat for display in our Giraffe Gallery (it will be returned to you at end of summer);
DISCOVER... fun facts about giraffes at the Fox and Robbins libraries, and help the giant giraffes on display turn colors. Win prizes when you participate in the summer reading program
IDENTIFY A GIRAFFE HERO...someone who takes risk, or "sticks their neck out" to help someone in need, to right a wrong, or to take an action that helps protect our beautiful earth? These can be actions both big and small. Are you a giraffe hero or do you know someone who is? Tell us about it by filling out an entry form at ARTBEAT or at the Fox or Robbins libraries. Your entries will be published on our blog as inspiration for others, and one or more heroes will be chosen for a special award in the Fall.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q. Are all the giraffes we're looking for 5 ft tall?
A. Goodness no! The only 5 ft giraffe around here that we know of is Georgina, who lives at ARTBEAT. The hidden giraffes are 4 inches high and are made of wood.
Q. How many hidden giraffes are part of this adventure?
A. There are 200 little giraffes to be found.
Q. Are all the giraffes hidden now?
A. No, they are being hidden over the course of the summer, so you will have plenty of time to explore Arlington's green spaces and libraries.
Q. Might we have to dig to find them?
A. No! No digging is involved. The giraffes will not be directly on the ground, so that dogs will not mistake them for chew toys. They will be relatively easy for children to spot if they keep their eyes open!
Q. Can you give us any hints as to where they are?A. Keep your eyes open when you visit Spy Pond, the Res, Menotomy Rocks,
Robbins Farm, as well as other parks and playgrounds in East Arlington,
Arlington Heights, and near Arlington Center. Keep your eyes open at the
Robbins and Fox libraries, too! Notice the big paper giraffes at the libraries,
and help decorate them while you're there, by discovering fun facts about
giraffes.
